Environmental Law
Ms. MacLachlan's experience includes:
- Advising the Joint Review Panel responsible for reviewing the proposed Mackenzie Gas Project in the Northwest Territories (2004 - );
- Advising the second Joint Federal Provincial Review Panel on the Cheviot Coal Mine Project (2000);
- Chairing the Joint federal Environmental Assessment Review Panel that reviewed the BHP Diamonds Project to construct and operate Canada's first diamond mine near Lac de Gras, in the Northwest Territories (1995-1996);
- providing advice on matters related to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act to both the Mining Association of Canada and the Canadian Construction Association (1994-1996) and on behalf of De Beers Canada (2004);
- Providing legal and strategic advice to railroad, pipeline, military, recreation and oil and gas companies on requirements of and interpertation of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act including activities in National Parks;
- preparing and maintaining a legal summary of law affecting specific projects for ISO Certification (De Beers Snap Lake Advance Exploration Diamond Project 2002-2004);
- Identifying environmental and permitting requirements during a project's planning phase;
- Advising on issues related to water law (Inquiry on Federal Water Policy - 1985 and Mackenzie River Basin Study - 1981);
- Overseeing environmental due diligence in relation to a broad range of corporate and commercial transactions.
