Aboriginal Issues
Ms. MacLachlan's experience includes:
- Advising on Aboriginal rights matters (De Beers Canada Inc since 2000; Diavik Diamond Mine [1999-2000]; Joint Review Panel conducting environmental review of the Mackenzie Gas Project since 2004);
- Participation in negotiation of impact agreements with aboriginal peoples affected by mining projects in the NWT and Nunavut (De Beers Canada Mining Inc. since 2000; Diavik Diamond Mines 1999-2000; Tahera Corporation 2003; Wolfden Resources Inc. since 2006);
- facilitating impact benefit plans and access agreements between various petroleum companies and aboriginal organizations responsible for implementing land claim agreements in the NWT (Grey Wolf Explorations Inc., AEC West [now Encana]);
- advising the Dene Nation and the Dene-Metis Negotiations Secretariat in the NWT on land claim negotiations in relation to land and water use regulation, environmental assessment, parks legislation and wildlife management, corporate administration, advocacy, and policy development (1982- ~1993).
